The whole map view (50x50 cm)

The board game is about a car accident that took place in a desert. Players need to rebuild their cars using some scrap to get out of the desert as fast as possible. The map of the desert region had to be functional and also be able to tell a story.
Stages

The client came to me with a very rough painting of the map (which is the first stage in this gif) to get the idea across. then we had a lot of back and fourth adding details and information and refining the whole thing.

The client had pre-AI-generated characters’ portraits and a camp site image which I had to overpaint a little to make it look better.

The crash site doesn’t bare any functionality except for creating a backstory so it doesn’t take too much space. This is made with photobashing, overpainting and regular painting.

Here are 25+ pages of the levels map each having several animated elements and 30+ pages of comics telling the story when some of the levels get unlocked. The graphics are fairly simple but I’ve spent quite a lot of time on them in total:)
